Starting a blog can be a great way to reaching a wider audience and even make money online.

In this guide, I’ll show you how I started my blog Yesikatips using Blogger, and how you can also state, step by step.
What Is Blogging?
Blogging is simply writing and publishing articles online about topics you’re interested in. You can write about trending news, fashion, lifestyle, tech, school updates, or anything you love.
Blogging Platforms You Can Use To A Blog In Ghana
- Blogger (Free)
- WordPress (Free & Paid)
- Medium (Free)
- Wix or Squarespace (Paid)
- Ghost.org (Tech-focused)
For this guide, we’ll use Blogger, a free platform owned by Google to guide you create your own blog. It’s what I used to start Yesikatips, and it’s beginner-friendly with no monthly hosting bills.

- You can apply for AdSense directly through your Blogger dashboard.
- Very easy to use, even if you use your phone to start.
How To Start Your Blog.
1. Choose Your Niche.
This is the topic your blog will write about. Think about:
- What you love doing and comes easily. Eg fashion, food, tech etc.
- What people in Ghana are searching for on daily basis.
- What you can write about everyday.
Examples:
- Campus lifestyle tips for freshener's.
- How to make money online in Ghana.
- Affordable cooking recipes.
- SHS student survival guides.
2. Go to Blogger and Create Your Blog
- Open www.blogger.com in your browser.
- Sign in using your Google or Gmail account.
- Click on Create a New Blog .
- Give your blog a name or title e.g., Yesikatips.
- Choose a free Blogspot URL e.g., yesikatips.blogspot.com

Later, you can connect a custom domain like rashadgh.com
3. How To Buy a Custom Domain.
Use the platforms I have listened to buy your domain.
- Web4Africa (Ghanaian option)
Steps:
- Search for your preferred domain e.g., yesikatips.com
- Buy and connect it to your blog.
Go to your Blogger dashboard, settings → Publishing → Custom Domain.
And connect your custom domain.
There are YouTube videos to guide you if needed.
How To Design Your Blog.
Choose a template that suits your blog's theme and style.
- On your Blogger dashboard, go to Theme.
- Choose a clean and mobile-friendly theme for your blog.
- You can also upload free themes from sites like SoraTemplates or Gooyaabi Templates directly to your blog.
- Customize your theme colors, add your logo, and make your layout to match your brand and blog style.
Tips
Select a template that is nice for your blog's theme.
Customize your blog's layout by adding or removing gadgets, such as header, footer, sidebar.
Choose a theme that matches your blog's content and style.
Add gadgets to your blog, such as a search bar, subscription link, or social media buttons.
Add widgets to your blog, such as a calendar, archives, or recent posts.
Choose a color scheme that matches your blog's theme and style.
Select fonts that are easy to read and connect with your blog's style.
Add a Header and Logo for clear brand representation.
Choose a template that is optimized for mobile devices.
Make sure that your blog's design is responsive and adapts to different screen sizes.
Kindly preview your blog to ensure that it looks and functions as expected.

How to create Pages And Post.
Create important pages for you blog to look professional and trustworthy.
To Create a page
Go to Blogger Dashboard → Pages → New Page
Create the following pages.
- About Page, and talk about you and your blog mission.
- Privacy Policy Page, tell how you will handle user data. You can use free online generators to create content this page.
- Disclaimer Page, state clearly that your content is for educational purposes only.
- Contact Page – Add your email or contact form.
To start writing your post
Go to Blogger dashboard, Posts → New Post.
- Write a catchy title for the blog post.
- Structure the post with headings H2, H3 head tags.
- Use short paragraphs for engagement.
- Add images or videos for more ures engagement. Upload from your computer or use free image from sites like Pexels etc
- Proofread alway before publishing your post.
Tip: Use your own experience or local examples to make content relatable and unique.
How to Submit Blog to Google Search Console
This helps Google find and index your blog faster, and brings in more organic traffic.
Steps:
- Visit Google Search Console here
- Click on "Start Now" and sign in with your Google account.
- Add your blog URL and follow the verification steps to verify the blog is for you.
- Submit your sitemap to help Google index your blog. Eg yesikatips.com.sitemap.xml
How To Monetize with AdSense.
Once you have some good posts and traffic0 coming in.
Go to Earnings in your Blogger dashboard and apply for Google AdSense.
Requirements to get approved.
- At least post 15–20 quality blog posts
- Add important pages like, About Us Page, Privacy Policy Page etc.
- Clean blog layout for easy navigation.
- Unique, original and engaging content.
AdSense will place ads on your blog, and pay you per click or view.
Other Monetization Options You Can Use.
Affiliate Marketing, by promote other people’s products and earn commission when someone buys.
Sponsored Posts, Brands will pay you to write about them and their products or services.
Sell digital products like eBooks, Courses etc on your blog.
