On that note, here are my top 3 favourite apps that I’m using to save and achieve financial freedom right here in Ghana.

    #1. Achieve By Petra App.

I know saving money can be difficult. We've all been there. But I've been able to cultivate that habit and achieve goals set for myself using the achieve by Petra app.

With the app, you can set goals towards achieving certain things. I have plan on purchasing the iPhone 17 when it's officially released.

So I have begun saving towards that goal right within the achieve by Petra app. Using the goals feature in the achieve by Petra app.

    Why I love It.

The App increases motivation and discipline in managing your finances easily while accomplishing your financial dreams and goals.

The achieve by Petra app is a really convenient way of saving your money, while earning daily interest.

Susu groups don't give you this, neither does putting your money in some susu box under your bed give you that.

I personally use this method to save almost 10,000 GH. And I'll show you exactly how easily you can also do it.

With the Digi Save option in the achieve by Petra app, you will be able to begin saving with as little as 10 GH towards any goal you set.

It's an excellent alternative to your normal bank account, because you get higher returns, what you call interest.

As well as easy access to your money at any time through standard withdrawal at no cost at all.

This is a low risk, low returns investment, which is perfect for short term goals like purchasing your next smartphone or planning that trip with your significant other.

    How To Get Started.

Simply head over to the App Store, whether an iOS or Android, and download the achieve by Petra app.

Sign up or sign in, complete your KYC information.

    Tap the explore button.

Tap flexible investments, then digi save.

And begin saving towards your goal while earning daily interest.

    It's that simple.

    Accrue Dashboard

My go to app if I want to Save in USD is Accrue, and it has been a game changer for me. With Accrue, I’m not just saving but I’m also growing my money with daily interest they pay me everyday.

Every single day, I earn something on my savings. It’s not some sposchemee. It’s real, transparent, they just invest and give me my own share.

I’ve set up some personal goals inside the app. Im planning for my next trip to visit the north of Ghana.

I don't have emergency fund for now but Accrue allow to save for each account separately. Be it emergency fund or for personal goals. It’s like having your own mini bank your in pocket .

    Why I love It.

    - I get daily interest on your savings every day!

    - I save in USD, protecting my savings from cedi depreciation

-I can withdraw anytime with no fees

    - You can Start with just $1

    - It gives some nice user experience

    - Better returns than susu or bank savings

Right now, I’m saving towards my travel plans and maybe get a new laptop, and watching my interest gets in daily is all the motivation I need.

How to Start Saving with Accrue

    #3. MTN MoMo App.

    MTN MoMo App

You might be surprised, I added this to my list but it is one of the most powerful tools I’ve used to stay consistent with for my savings.

Fortunately is something most of us already have MTN Mobile Money (MoMo).

I know MoMo is mostly used for sending money and paying bills, but here’s how I personally use it as a basic savings tool to save money.

I created a separate MoMo wallet just for savings. Every week, I transfer a small amount sometimes GH₵50 or GH₵100 into that wallet and intentionally don’t touch it.

Some people go even further and use the MoMo locked savings feature, Y'ello Save which hides the money and only allows withdrawal after a set time.

    Why I love It.

    - It very convenient and everyone uses it.

    - You can lock your savings using Y’ello Save.

    - No need for extra apps or logins to start your savings.

    - Works 24/7 even in remote areas in Ghana.

    - You’re in full control, so you need to be discipline to avoid temptation of withdrawing your savings.

I’ve used this method to save for smaller short-term goals like birthday expenses, buying gifts and etc for family and friends.

    How To Get Started.

    1. Dial *170#

    2. Select Financial Services, go to Savings and Loans.

    3. Choose Y’ello Save.

It’s simple, familiar, and effective. So if you want to start small with savings using something you already trust, MTN MoMo is a good starting point.

That’s it! So these are just 3 of my favourite apps I’m using to save and building wealth. What apps or ways do you use to save your money? Let me know in the comments!
